作者简介

威廉·萨默赛特·毛姆 William Somerset Maugham（1874～1965），英国小说家、戏剧家。1874年1月25日生于巴黎。小毛姆不满十岁，父母就先后去世，他被送回英国由伯父抚养。毛姆进坎特伯雷皇家公学之后，由于身材矮小，且严重口吃，经常受到其他孩子的欺凌和折磨，有时还遭到冬烘学究的无端羞辱。孤寂凄清的童年生活，在他稚嫩的心灵上投下了痛苦的阴影，养成他孤僻、敏感、内向的性格，却也让他变得坚强和富有同情心。幼年的经历对他的世界观和文学创作产生了重要的影响，在此后创作的多篇著作中无不透露出对人生、艺术、信仰的深刻剖析。

作品以法国印象派画家保罗·高更的生平为素材，描述了一个原本平凡的伦敦证券经纪人思特里克兰德，突然着了艺术的魔，抛妻弃子，绝弃了旁人看来优裕美满的生活，奔赴南太平洋的塔希提岛，用圆笔谱写出自己光辉灿烂的生命，把生命的价值全部注入绚烂的画布的故事。

Based on the life of the French impressionist painter Paul Gauguin, it depicts a once ordinary London stockbroker, strickland, who has suddenly fallen under the spell of art, abandoned his wife and children, and abandoned what seemed to be a comfortable and happy life for others To the South Pacific island of Tahiti, with a round pen to write his brilliant life, the value of life into all the gorgeous canvas story.

男主思特里克兰德，原本过着幸福美满的生活，但因为突然因为艺术着了魔，离开妻子，放弃了别人看来富裕美满的生活，开始了自己的艺术生活。他用画笔将自己生命的光辉再次发散出来，将自己的生命完全注入了艺术之中。思特里克兰德不是艺术天才，可他却选择了放弃六便士，选择那远在天边的月亮，选择了追寻自己的艺术梦想。他不是天才，却依然自由勇敢！希望大家也能保持自由和勇敢，勇敢追寻的自己的梦想。

我们每个人生在世界上都是孤独的。每个人都被囚禁在一座铁塔里，只能靠一些符号同别人传达自己的思想；而这些符号并没有共同的价值，因此它们的意义是模糊的、不确定的。我们非常可怜地想把自己心中的财富传送给别人，但是他们却没有接受这些财富的能力。因此我们只能孤独的行走，尽管身体相互依傍却并不在一起，既不了解别的人也不能为别人所了解。 

 We are all alone in the world. Each was imprisoned in an iron tower, and could only communicate with others by means of symbols which had no common value, and whose meaning was therefore vague and uncertain. We are so pitifully tempted to pass on our riches to others, but they are not capable of receiving them. Therefore we can only walk alone, although the body is dependent on each other but not together, neither know other people nor can be known by others.
